About the Garden
Welcome to the community garden at Markham Park in Sunrise, Florida! This garden is the first one created by the Weston Community Garden Society, which is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
On the property and within the fenced area, there are twenty three 4' X 10' raised garden beds filled with high quality, organic soil, which individuals, families, or groups may reserve on a yearly basis. There is also a variety of fruit trees and a Florida native flower pollinator garden. The Weston Community Garden Society are planning to create row crops where food will be grown for donation to local community food banks, as well as a shared herb garden for volunteers and visitors.
Outside the fence is the food forest and reflection area that overlooks the lake which lies alongside the property. A food forest is a a multi-layered, self-sustaining ecosystem designed to mimic a natural forest, prioritizing edible and medicinal plants including trees, shrubs, vines, and a ground cover--all while promoting biodiversity and healthy soil. We are always adding to this area to build it up.
